When you leave Morrison's supermarket in Fleetville, St. Albans you pass a life-size, colour image of a uniformed policeman in the window.
I read that this acts as a deterrent to shoplifters. I don’t know how effective it is, but if not practically, it is a psychological indicator that police are around and it is a crime to steal.
It made me start wondering how shoppers would react if there was a life-size picture of Jesus in the window on leaving the store?
No, not to discourage shoplifting – wrong as it is – rather to remind us that He is present here in this world and we should do nothing to dishonour Him.
You might react and say: ‘Nothing to do with me, I’ve no time for that’. Well, you may need to take time to think about it because the Bible says that one day Jesus will return to bring in a new Heaven and a new Earth, and at that point we will all face our Maker on what is known as Judgement Day.
Each of us will have to account for our life’s actions – the good and the bad.
This might be hard to accept, or even brushed away as rubbish, but if I’m right then it’s something you need to consider. A commitment to Jesus, with repentance for all our wrongdoings, brings salvation to a new life today and eternal life in due course, with peace of mind.
Like me, if you’re older, time to act is getting shorter – so act soon! Find out more at a church near you in St. Albans or Harpenden.
