I gave my 3 little granddaughters a different present this Easter ! In a packet were 3 grubby earthy misshapen things, one each. However, the packet showed what they might turn into – really colourful Dahlias. Now, if you didn’t know anything about growing plants, you’d be horrified to get such a nasty present.
I just wonder if we grown-ups take for granted the transformation of bulbs, corms and seeds into living creations of form and beauty! We are used to it…seeing apple blossom on the tree, and the “host of golden daffodils” as Wordsworth put it. But it me, it speaks of the amazing ways of God. How else do you explain the wonders of nature?
Transformation ! The story of Cinderella does not have the monopoly of it.. It’s actually not only the story of seeds and bulbs changing from what looks like death into colourful life , it’s the heart of Christianity.
We’ve just celebrated Easter…… when, historically proven, a dead man was transformed into life and this man was God’s son, Jesus.
Today, his offer is that we can also be transformed by believing in Him.
So when you are relaxing outside, hopefully in the sort of sunshine we had over Easter, whether in a park or in your garden, enjoying the lilies of the valley, the pansies , or the carpet of forget me nots, consider the Easter message once again. It is a tale of transformation.
