Townsend claimed victory in the Hertfordshire County Championship after defeating Garston in a well-contested final.
Having qualified for the event by winning the two-rink divisional championship against Harpenden, Townsend would take on other divisional winners, from the north, west and east of the county.
Townsend took on North Division winners Roebuck in the first stage of the competition and came out on top on both rinks.
Jason Hall, Roger Potter, Peter Armstrong and Richard Briden claimed a 23-18 victory, while Peter Thomson, Jeff Harber, Gary West and Danny Macro came out on top by a margin of 22 shots to 16.
The two results meant Townsend completed an overall 11-shot win as hosts Garston beat Buntingford to reach the final. It was a close-fought encounter between the two sides and neither could pull out a significant lead to take control of the contest.
Garston managed, by the narrowest of margins, to win on one rink 14-13 and took a one-shot advantage into the competition which was being fought over the final three ends on the other rink.
Again there was little between the two teams, with the Townsend rink of Thomson, Harber, West and Macro holding a two-shot advantage going into the final end.
Despite a late Garston fightback, a fine shot from Macro ensured his club managed to claim victory and take the county championship.
