Brenda Pitkin was the star of St Albans Bowls Club’s finals day as she claimed victory in four competitions.
Pitkin was victorious in the ladies’ championship, the ladies’ handicap competition, the ladies’ fixed jack tournament and joined forces with Tricia Gascoine to win the ladies’ pairs. In the men’s championship, Roy Mercer came away with the trophy before winning the men’s fixed jack competition.
Dave Kiff claimed victory in the Best of the Best tournament and the Turner Plate, while the Men’s and Ladies’ novice competitions were won by Mike Jefferies and Carole Ewer.
Steve Wilson came away with the Victory Cup and Pauline Gardiner secured the ladies’ over-60s trophy.
In the men’s handicap, Phil Macarthur was victorious, while Diana Tribe and Andy Kay won the ladies and men’s two woods competition. Rod Perks and Robin Farrer claimed the men’s pairs title and the duo of Eileen Cox and Bert Sumner secured the mixed pairs crown.
The last weekend match of the season ended in disappointment for St Albans as they were beaten by a strong Owls side.
In a six-rink contest, the men lost out 97-58. The winning rink for St Albans was Paddy Boyle, Jim Cockburn, Tom Banfield and Dave Kiff, 21-15.
The ladies had a much closer encounter on their two rinks losing 39-34. The top rink was Margaret Christy, Carole Ewer, Diana Tribe and Eileen Cox, 22-20.
