It was a case of different season, same scoreline as Sophia Amanor-inspired Harpenden Town Women won 4-2 at Mulbarton Wanderers Ladies for the second year in succession in the Eastern Region League North Division.

The story of Sunday's game was rather different though, as last season Haps led 2-1 at the break, but this time around had only a single goal to show for their efforts at the interval after creating enough chances to be much further ahead.

That opening goal came after nine minutes when a Rebecca McShane corner was headed home by Amanor from three yards out.

Jaime Curtain twice had efforts on goal and was then involved in the build-up which ended with a McShane shot hitting the crossbar.

The visitors continued to press, with Belle Shannon twice going close before McShane hit the woodwork again with a low shot which struck the foot of the post.

It needed a superb save from Sophie Harris to keep her side in front five minutes after the break when she tipped a Tallie Chilleystone rocket round the post, but the home side were not to be denied six minutes later when a Chilleystone corner brushed the head of Reese Ayres.

However, they were level for hardly any time at all as McShane slipped the ball to Amanor to fire home her second goal of the game.

Amanor completed her hat-trick in the 70th minute with yet another sizzling shot after Tegan Thomas had surged forward down the right.

Thomas was to be the creator again 11 minutes later when more fine play down the right ended with a cross which Izzy Hughes headed home.

Amanor was denied a fourth goal from a McShane corner when Meg Belsey cleared off the line before a late lapse allowed Lucy Lincoln to pull one back for the home side.
