IN 1990, Graham Gooch scored 333 runs the highest total for an English batsmen in a famous test-match against India at the home of English Cricket, Lords.

One of the stewards that day was Graham Dill, who recently made history of his own by becoming the first man to win a Cambridge University Double-Blue for cricket and golf in 40 years.

His achievement was made all the more special by the fact that he completed the double in a match at Lords itself and that the last man to win such recognition was the English cricketing legend, Ted Dexter.

The 30-year-old from Harpenden, captain of Old Albanians, was particularly delighted that his award was clinched at the hallowed ground of Lords.

He said: "It was a dream come true. I never thought that I would ever get the chance to play here.

"The whole day was just amazing, from walking through the Long Room onto the pitch to taking my place at the crease."

Graham on a postgraduate teacher training course at Cambridge University obtained his Blues by taking part in Varsity matches in golf and cricket against traditional rivals, Oxford.

He gained his Golfing Blue in March at the Formby Course in Lancashire and although Oxford edged the match 8-7, Graham won both of his matches.

However, the real honour for Graham came in the One Day Match at Lords on June 28 which was attended by over 1,000 people.

He said: "It meant a lot because I am a big cricketing fan and the memories of that day will obviously be with me forever.

"I also got the chance to speak to Ted Dexter after the match and we talked about when he won his Double Blue."

The match at Lords was the culmination of a year of hard work for Graham who managed to achieve his postgraduate diploma as well as the sporting honours.

"I set myself a goal at the beginning of the year to win two Blues, and I am delighted that I managed to do it."

During the season, Cambridge also faced top County sides like Kent, Sussex and Essex, although Graham did have the bonus of playing alongside top quality players, such as rising star James Pyemont, who also turns out for Derbyshire.

However, it is back down to earth for Graham now as he focuses on guiding his side to promotion to the Saracens First Division.
