London Colney consolidated second place after extending their unbeaten run in the South Midlands Premier Division to 22 games with a 2-0 win at Biggleswade United on Saturday.
It was a lively start to the match and the visitors threatened twice through Jack Woods but his efforts were both saved by goalkeeper Grant Beckwith.
Shaun Murphy and Martin Collins had headers blocked by Beckwith following crosses into the box from Rhys Lawrence and then a surging run forward from Tom Smith saw his effort go over the bar.
The deserved breakthrough came in the 66th minute when Cain Davey released Spencer Clarke-Mardel and he played the ball across for Ewington to blast the ball home from close range.
James Lawrence and Clarke-Mardel both fired just wide before Colney doubled their lead in the 76th minute.
Woods slipped the ball to Clarke-Mardel and he again turned provider for Ewington as he swept home his 19th goal of the season.
The hosts almost pulled one back but Reynaldo Carbon’s long-range strike was superbly tipped over by goalkeeper Jack Smith.
Clarke-Mardel was also denied a goal by a fine save from Beckwith.
Ewington thought he had scored a hat-trick but his goal was ruled out by the linesman.
