St Albans Hockey Club’s Praetorians clinched a 3-2 win over London League Supervets Division One leaders Chelmsford on Saturday.
Captain James Tompkins led his side to a memorable victory with goals from Jean-Paul Vincent, Angus MacGregor and David Sheridan.
The men’s Fifths were also in impressive form with a 4-1 win at Stevenage.
In the East indoor competitions, Oaklands proved a fine venue as Holcombe won the women’s qualifiers and the Tangerines beat Cambridge to finish fifth.
The St Albans men had a perfect day with three indoor victories on Saturday at Cambridge, only to return on Sunday to see Paul Cooper controversially red-carded as their crucial match against Havering ended in a 4-2 defeat.
Meanwhile, St Albans men’s head coach Andy Halliday steered England to a 3-1 win over Australia and an 8-2 victory over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy in India.
In Argentina, St Albans women’s coach Hannah Macleod and teammate Ellie Watton finished off the Champions Trophy strongly with a fifth-place finish after weekend wins against Japan and China.
