After months of preparation, the London Marathon 2022 has finally arrived with thousands of runners taking to the famous route and thousands of pounds being raised for various charities.
As runners look towards taking a short break from their strict preparation routines, they will be looking toward the future for the 2023 race.
However, the gap between the two is a lot shorter than most years, after the traditional April day is officially back.
It’s a well-known fact that the marathon has been a spring event for the last 39 years it has been running.
However, in recent years the iconic event has swapped its spring date for an autumnal date in October, with the 2022 date being no different.
The spring date was changed following the knock-on effect caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
As Event Director of the marathon, Hugh Brasher said: "We are living in a hugely uncertain world” back in August 2021 when the October date was announced.
But now the traditional date of springtime is returning.
When is the London Marathon 2023?
The 2023 London Marathon will take place in April as Mr Brasher announced: "we will return to our traditional slot in the calendar in 2023, when the TCS London Marathon will take place on Sunday 23 April.”
Ballots for the marathon are already open, you can enter via the London Marathon website.
However, entries are chosen at random so there's no guarantee you'll get a space but you can increase your chances by choosing to donate your entry fee.
