Michael Gove has been appointed as housing secretary in today's cabinet reshuffle.
The MP for Surrey Heath takes over from Robert Jenrick who was sacked this afternoon.
No 10 has taked him with taking on “cross-Government responsibility for levelling up”, Downing Street said.

On Gove's appointment, No 10 has said: “The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
“He takes on cross-Government responsibility for levelling up. He retains ministerial responsibility for the Union and elections.”
This is every cabinet minister sacked so far today, and every cabinet minister picking up a new role.
