By Julie Moore, University of Herts
Those of you who have attended our University's Remembering the First World War events will have met Terry and Margaret Pankhurst who have done such a great job in researching the stories of those of the fallen who appear on the Wheathampstead War Memorial.
What seemed a fairly straightforward exercise has taken them on quite a journey and they are mounting an exhibition in St. Helen's Church, Wheathampstead, from Saturday October 26th to Friday November 2nd showing some of what they have found.
Terry will also be giving a talk in St. Helen's Church on the evening of Friday 2nd November, starting at 5.30p.m., when he will set out some of the twists and turns of the research as well as the stories of the fallen men. This promises to be a really interesting evening and I hope that many of you will be able to come along on the Friday evening, but if not and you are in the Wheathampstead area, then do try to get along and see the exhibition.
