A hairdresser from Redbourn has been named as one of the best salon managers in the country.
Karen Hyam has been named a finalist in the National Hairdresser’s Federation’s Britain’s Best competition.
The 32-year-old, who lives in Silkminn Road, said: “It is just nice to be recognised.
“When I read the email I didn’t quite believe it.
“I am really excited.”
Miss Hyam has co-owned and managed Atelier Hairdressing and Beauty Rooms in High Street, Redbourn, for five years.
She added: “It is nice to be recognised for all the hard work and effort we have put in.
“We are really lucky here – we have a really close team.
“They are all really supportive.”
This is the first year that the federation has run the competition, which aims to track down the best stylists, barbers and salon owners in the industry.
Miss Hyan will now have to fight off competition from across the country to take the first prize spot.
The winner will be decided by a text vote open to the general public.
She added: “I’m sure the competition is stiff.
“I just have to keep my fingers crossed now.
“It was nice to be nominated in the award’s first year.”
The winner of the competition will be announced at an awards night Birmingham in November.
Miss Hyam added: “I’m really excited about it.
“It will just be good to be part of an industry evening.
“If anything comes of it then that is a bonus.”
To vote for Karen text NHF254 to 88080.
