A school in St Albans has been recognised for bringing singing into everyday life for its pupils.
Oakwood Primary School in Oakwood Drive has received a gold award from Sing Up, a programme that encourages teachers to put singing at the heart of school life.
Alison Curran, a governor and parent at the school, said: "I’ve been to a few of the singing assemblies and it is just beautiful.
"The quality of singing is fantastic. There isn’t one child who isn’t taking it on.
"It is just a nice way for the children to learn."
The school achieved silver status from the organisation last year and is now hoping to progress on to the platinum title.
Ms Curran added: "It is a massive commitment.
"You have to collect a lot of evidence. Every class has to sing every day.
"I think it is a great achievement."
Over the past two years the school’s choir has grown dramatically and they have performed at the Royal Albert Hall.
The pupils are also due to sing at the o2 Arena in January.
Ms Curran said: "I think it is something that we neglect in life.
"It is often viewed as a girl thing but the boys join the choir as well - they love singing."
