A Harpenden secondary school is mourning the loss of "a wonderful character" who passed away last week.
Connor Geraghty, 56, taught English and drama at Roundwood Park School for more than 20 years and was a regular face on many foreign trips and expeditions.
He is remembered by his colleagues and former students for his love of knitwear, his giant mugs of coffee, and his "wicked" sense of humour.
Linda Graham, deputy headteacher, started working at Roundwood in 1993, two years after "Gezza" joined the school.
She and about 30 other members of staff took part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life - raising £2,000 - when Mr Geraghty was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Ms Graham said: "Connor Geraghty was truly a 'one off'. He enriched the lives of colleagues and students alike with his infectious zest for life and wicked sense of humour.
"The loss of such a wonderful character is devastating, but I will never be able to think about him without smiling."
See next week’s St Albans and Harpenden Review for a full tribute to Connor Geraghty.
