A ground-breaking initiative to tackle anti-social behaviour and noise nuisance in Hatfield co-incides with the start of the academic year and aims to improve the lives of all residents.
Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership is running the operation, led by Hertfordshire Constabulary with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and the University of Hertfordshire.
It will run from 24th September through to 14th October and involve up to six police officers with support from the council's Environmental Health Officers. The team will work from 9pm to 4am.
Insp Ian Grout said: "This is an innovative new approach where we will be dedicating a number of resources to help local people to appreciate and understand the levels of behaviour expected and to set a standard for the coming year. All residents have the right to live peacefully and we will reinforce that message to those who don't comply."
Hatfield residents can report concerns about noise, anti-social behaviour and other related disturbances to the police on 101 or the council on 0800 111 4484.
For a number of years Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and the University of Hertfordshire have operated a successful extended noise nuisance call out service to cover the start and end of the academic year period in Hatfield. This experience has shown that, on the whole, noise nuisance has been averted through mediation and education, with the number of formal notices issued reducing year on year.
