FINAL year students at the University of Hertfordshire will tomorrow let loose a rocket powered car that is faster than a Ferrari.
The fire-fuelled vehicle, which is made from a modified Vauxhall VX220, is due to launch tomorrow at 11.30am in front of shoppers at Sainsbury’s in London Colney.
Onlookers will be able to take a closer look and even sit inside the vehicle at the event which marks the first time students at the university have built a rocket car.
The vehicle, which was built by students as part of their studies in less than six weeks, has been fitted with a rocket motor with a thrust of around 600kg, meaning it reaches 0-60 miles per hour in three seconds – quicker than a Ferrari.
It will be manned by principal aerospace lecturer Ray Wilkinson, while Rahul Kundu, one of the students who designed the rocket car, will be present throughout the day to talk about the project and answer questions.
