A group of employees from an administration company in St Albans have put their razors aside for a month to grow moustaches for charity.
Ten men from different departments of Opal, based in Grosvenor Road, have endured an itchy month in their bid to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer.
Seza Nevat, IT operational analyst at the independent company, said: “A few people weren’t up for it at the start but we convinced them in the end.
“It is something I have always wanted to take part in.
“It’s been a laugh but we are defiantly looking forward to shaving them off.”
The group of friends decided to take place in the challenge after one of their colleagues lost his father to the disease.
Mr Nevat added: “Testicular and prostate cancer does not get enough exposure so I wanted be part of raising awareness.”
So far the men have raised £1,175, but they are hoping to reach their £1,500 target before the end of the month.
Opal have also promised to match the group’s final figure so they are organising cake sales and dress down days to raise as much cash as possible.
The friends are already counting down the days until December 1 when they can shave their moustaches off. Ajay Pattni, IT software tester, said: “I can’t wait to be shot of this embarrassment but will miss it a little though.
“It felt like being in a club, giving a knowing nod to other Mo-Bro’s as you pass in the street and admire each others foliage. Also it was good as an ice-breaker with the ladies.”
Opal’s chairman, Tony Collins, was inspired to take part in the month by four of his friends who have died from the diseases.
He said: “It’s fantastic to feel that you are doing something and having fun at the same time.
“Also it is a lot less exhausting than a sponsored walk.”
