Following formal approval by the council’s Cabinet on 8 November, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and the University of Hertfordshire have launched Hertfordshire’s first Landlord Accreditation Scheme.
An associated website PAL-online has been set up to serve as an information portal for both landlords and tenants alike. As the scheme develops, information will be added, including details of accredited landlords and various services, with help and assistance for both landlords and tenants. Applications from local landlords are now being accepted via the website and an official launch event will follow in December.
The Partnership Accreditation for Landlords scheme encourages good quality rental accommodation in the private sector and will effectively ‘quality mark’ landlords within the borough. The initiative will provide reassurance for prospective tenants and enable them to make an informed choice when looking for accommodation in the area. Landlords belonging to the scheme will be endorsed by the council and the University.
Councillor Roger Trigg, Executive Member for Housing and Community, said: “I’m delighted that the Cabinet has given the formal go ahead for the scheme. The council, together with the University, is working to improve the standards of privately rented accommodation in the borough, whilst acknowledging landlords who demonstrate good practice.”
