A PUBLIC consultation has been launched into a proposal to relocate Markyate post office.
Post Office announced the consultation today over the relocation of the branch from 42 High Street to 66-68 High Street.
The sub-postmaster has resigned due to retirement and the premises will no longer be a post office from November.
A new sub-postmaster and location have been found, in order to maintain the post office services in Markyate.
Post Office Ltd spokesman Philippa Newey said: “Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term.
“The new branch will offer the same wide range of Post Office products and services and will be open for longer, including lunchtimes and Wednesday afternoons.
“The branch will have level access and a wide door to assist customers. Internally there will be a low-level serving counter and writing desk as well as a hearing loop. Roadside parking is available outside the premises.”
The consultation will end on Tuesday, November 22. To respond to the consultation email consultation@postoffice.co.uk, or telephone the customer helpline 08457 22 33 44.
