A HARPENDEN school which has forged strong links with pupils in China was aired on the country's news channel last week.

Reporters from the international office of Central China TV visited St George's School to learn more about the rewards offered through the Tutor Card system.

Deputy head of the Sun Lane school Patrick Storrie was interviewed about the way pupils' performance is regularly rewarded.

Headmaster Norman Hoare said: “All to often children are not valued in some schools. We make a determined attempt to recognise effort – after all our motto is aim higher – and the 64 Head's Commendations I award personally in an individual interview with every nominee allows them to explain what they have done, how hard they have worked and to feel that they are very important.”

St George's has built up a relationship with China and is linked to two schools in the country.
