MORE than 100 petitions were lodged in Parliament yesterday by parents who fear new government plans could undermine their home schooling powers.
Parents from St Albans joined hundreds of others, plus MPs including Anne Main, objecting to proposals in the pipeline to bring in strict registration and monitoring of home educated children.
Carolyn Crawshaw and her husband Mike have been educating their five children at home for the past 15 years.
The couple, of Woodstock Road North, St Albans, have spoken to the Review in the past over their fears.
Yesterday's presentation was described as record breaking with the most petitions on a single issue being handed in at the House of Commons. The previous record was 44 petitions on March 28, 2006, against cuts and closures to community hospitals.
Mother-of-five Mrs Crawshaw told the Review today: “It was really successful yesterday.
“We got a lot of people to sign the petitions and St Albans seemed to be the area with the most petitions.”
