THE fundraising efforts of parents put a festive smile on the faces of children at a St Albans school today.
Members of the Parent Teachers' Association at Oakwood Primary have rallied round throughout the year organising events such as the Easter extravaganza and cake sales in bid to raise as much cash as possible.
A cheque for £10,000 was presented to teachers by the Oakwood Association this afternoon making their dreams of an all weather play area come true.
Chairman of the group Jenny Robinson told the Review: “This money will be used to create a surface in the playground which the children can use all year round.
“Historically we have purchased play equipment but the areas around it need refurbishing.”
The money was presented after Key Stage 1 pupils performed their Christmas nativity play.
Ms Robinson added: “I think the parents were amazed today at the sum which has been raised.
“Because every penny counts and I don't think they realise everytime they give a pound for something it all makes a big difference.”
Zoe Buckley, headteacher at the Oakwood Drive school, praised the efforts of all the parents involved throughout the 2008/09 academic year and commented on the support they provide to the school.
