AN action plan drawn up by St Albans District Council to tackle the ongoing problem of pollution on Holywell Hill was agreed last night.
Councillors on the district council's cabinet pushed through proposals which could help to reduce traffic flow through the city centre.
Commenting on the escalating problems, Councillor Martin Freason, representing the Verulam ward, said: “The measures in the action plan I fully support. It seems to me the majority of the cars which come up Holywell Hill pass through the city centre and I don't seem to know where they go.
“Instead they should be using alternative routes.”
The leader, Councillor Robert Donald said: “This is a serious issue and we are taking it seriously through this action plan.”
County and district council leaders are meeting with the Holywell Action Group on December 22 to discuss the residents' views on what can be done to reduce the pollution.
