HELIOSLOUGH'S railfreight project will be good for the area by giving people access to the countryside, an expert witness has told the inquiry.
Planning expert Richard Tilley, the developer's first witness, was asked by Mr Kingston: “What do you say to the suggestion that the proposed country park will be plastic and contrived?”
He replied: “That is somewhat unfair.
"It will improve people's access to the countryside.
“Threre will be woodland, conservation grazing, footpaths and bridleways.”
Asked about the traffic impact on Park Street, he said: “At present lorries do pass through Park Street.
“The by-pass proposed as part of the scheme has long been sought to alleviate this problem.”
He said the project would improve both safety and air quality in the Park Street area.
Mr Tilley's evidence and cross-examination will take up the rest of the day and may well stretch into tomorrow.
