TESCO has flatly denied rumours it could be willing to ditch its plans for a major supermarket in London Road in favour of an alternative site in the centre of St Albans.
The supermarket says it has no plans to move its plans for a major supermarket to the former Woolworths store in St Peters Street, just doors away from its Express branch.
Tesco spokesman Nick Gellatly said: "The current store in St Albans and the Woolworths store would fit into out smaller store formats.
"I'm not sure what, if anything, is planned, but it would not affect future plans for London Road.
"We are in the process of renovating the residential properties there and hope to make a decision on our future plans as far as the rest of the site in concerned during the first few months of 2010."
