A YEAR of dedicated training paid off for a team at St Albans Judo Club who triumphed at an international competition.
The Review recently launched a campaign to highlight the success of today's youth. The medals proudly brought home by the district's club really supports what we aim to bring to the forefront.
Our KiDs campaign wants to put an end to the negative perception many have of youngsters and show with real examples how the emerging generation plays a big part in your community.
The group took part in the 30th British Open Kata held in High Wycombe last week, arriving with high hopes.
Each year the standard of those taking part in the event increase and attracts teams from different countries.
Under 12s Eleanor Howell and her partner Jamie Davies set the ball rolling when they scooped the silver medal in the first set of the Gatame-No-Kata technique.
In the under 16s Eleanor's brother Bradley who was teamed up with Victoria Cleevey also earned a silver medal.
Megan Taylor and Sophie Day were two players who really showed what they were made of when they improved on last year's silver to take home the gold and British title in the under 16s Ju-No-Kata, a kata of attack and defence which is shown at slow speed.
The team took home another two bronze medals and a silver and a proud place for two of them to represent Great Britain at the first official world championships in Malta later this year.
