Big news in local sport as Harpenden Cricket Club (HCC) has plans approved for new £50,000 training facilities.
After setting up its fundraiser on October 9, the Harpenden-based club has now had plans approved for the installation of two outdoor nets.
The application, which was submitted in March by Fairview New Homes Ltd on behalf of the club, is for two netted cricket lanes measuring 27m in length, 7.3m in width and 4m in height.
In a supporting statement the club said: "The existing net facilities are not sufficient to meet the current needs of the club or cater for the growing demands."
With the new nets, HCC hopes develop its "junior and senior" cricket sections.
In a decision notice, a spokesperson for St Albans City and District Council said: "The proposed development is considered appropriate development in the Metropolitan Green Belt.
"It is not considered to harm the openness of the Green Belt or conflict with the purposes of including land within it.
"The proposal will also preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the Conservation Area."
The council ensured that there would be no adverse impact on neighbouring properties in addition to no further car parking requirements.
Last month, HCC published an article announcing the ongoing fundraiser.
"Harpenden Cricket Club is installing two new outdoor nets to provide extra practice facilities for our growing junior section and the men’s and women’s sides," it read.
"These will be placed alongside the existing nets. The cost is an eye-popping £50,000 as we must keep the nets off the current playing area."

The fundraiser includes an auction for two signed shirts from England test captain, Ben Stokes and legend Jimmy Anderson.
"We have secured two grants and the club is funding 30 per cent of the cost. But we need to raise at least £10,000 from members," the statement added.
The auction process is ongoing and will finish on Sunday, December 1, to find out more go to https://www.harpendencc.com/news/can-you-help-the-club-fund-two-new-nets-2878341.html
