Herts police have arrested a woman after a clash inside a vehicle forced them to block the M1.
The force had been called to the motorway shortly before 12.20pm today (September 25) after the altercation was reported.
It apparently continued even after the vehicle was pulled onto the hard shoulder and police held traffic while they dealt with it.
Four people were in the vehicle at the time, three were taken to hospital to have their injuries assessed.
“Officers are currently on scene and traffic has been temporarily held as a safety precaution,” a Herts police spokesperson said.
“A woman has been arrested and is on the way to police custody.”
There were around two miles of congestion and 30 minutes of delays on the approach during the closure, between junction 6a (M25) and junction 8 (Hemel Hempstead). One of two lanes in the M1 northbound exit slip at junction J8 was also closed.
Traffic was released at around 1.30pm according to National Highways.
At time of writing, 2pm, there are still significant delays for journeys on the motorway.
