St Albans police crackdown on irresponsible driving

Last Thursday (August 8) saw officers from the St Albans Neighbourhood Policing team work with Hertfordshire Trading Standards, St Albans City and District Council and Ayletts Garden Centre to stage an operation designed to tackle fly-tipping and driving offences.

The operation saw a total of 11 traffic offence reports issued for various offences, including overweight vehicles, insecure loads, driving without a valid MOT and driving without road tax.

The drivers who were stopped for their vehicles being over the allowed weight were able to continue their journeys once they had distributed their loads safely and lawfully across two vehicles.

PC Fiona Hitchcock, of St Albans Neighbourhood Policing Team who organised the operation said: “Enforcement operations such as this one allow us to work collaboratively with our partners to gather valuable intelligence on individuals travelling through our area and to challenge individuals who may be working under an illegitimate business or committing road traffic offences.

“We hope that our high-visibility presence in the area provides reassurance to communities that we are not only committed to reacting to reports of crime, but also to prevent them.

“My thanks go to our partners and law-abiding members of the public for their patience and for supporting this operation.”
