The usual access route from St Michaels to Verulamium Park has been closed due to safety reasons.
St Albans City & District Council announced yesterday (Wednesday, May 15) that the footpath from St Michael's Street into the park had been shut due to it becoming slippery.
Access is still available via the Verulamium Museum car park and St Michael's churchyard, with direction signs installed.
A spokesperson for St Albans City & District Council said: "Access to Verulamium Park's Bell Meadow on St Michael's Street has been closed temporarily for safety reasons.
"The footpath, which is on a flood plain, has become slippery after being covered by water running off the River Ver.

"People should enter the park by other routes such as the nearby Verulamium Museum car park. Direction signs are in place.
"We are now looking at ways to make the path safe so it can be reopened as soon as possible.
"In the meantime, we apologise for any inconvenience caused to park users."
