Khoi Khoi, a popular bar and restaurant in Letchworth, has been repossessed and the site's locks changed by its landlord.
The Letchworth Heritage Foundation, which currently owns the premises, took back possession on Monday (October 23).
The foundation cited late rental payments as a reason for the restaurant being repossessed.
A spokesperson told The Comet: "Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation took possession of the commercial premises at 21a Eastcheap on Monday, October 23.
"The foundation is the largest commercial landlord in the town and is committed to the development of local services, charitable giving, and improvements to our town.
"We reinvest 40 per cent of this commercial income into the town, funding Broadway Cinema & Theatre, Standalone Farm and a £700,000 annual grants programme.

"The foundation’s property team works closely with tenants who fall behind on rental payments to find a solution.
"Unfortunately, if tenants fall substantially behind on rent and have no repayment plan it can be necessary to revoke tenancies, in line with their lease, to safeguard the future of the town’s development and in fairness to our other commercial tenants."
Khoi Khoi have been approached for comment.
