Londons Science Museum is an easy train ride from St Albans and an awe-inspiring visit that doesn’t cost any money. As you enter, you will be taken aback by massive machinery used in the Industrial Revolution. Then you will travel through time to their space section which showcases engineering involved in spaceships and beautiful images of stars and planets. In addition to this, it’s free to enter but buying a ticket to see an exhibit that interests you, is a perfect way to add even more excitement to your trip. At the moment there’s the Science fiction exhibit on until the 4th of May and (without plot-spoiling) it perfectly showcases famous sci-fi movies and books and teaches you about the science behind the stories.  This is the perfect exhibition for anyone who loves movies. The café and shop there are great as well!

On a clear night, another space themed trip would be to go to The Bayfordbury observatory (or any other observatories near you). At the Bayfordbury observatory, you can look through a telescope and see the moon and it’s intricate crators close up, which is such an amazing experience. There are pods with different technology in and astronomers who are passionate in their field and happy to answer any questions you have about space. Then go to the planetarium, where you will find even more dedicated astronomers who will guide you through the beauty and science of the night sky. The projections in the planetarium are good quality so the experience is extremely immersive.

These are two examples of great trips out with family that can be done in holidays or on a weekend. Have fun!
