Police swarmed a road and the bomb squad was called after an old mortar shell was found in St Albans.
Hertfordshire Constabulary rushed to Salisbury Avenue after residents discovered the shell in a property earlier this morning (Thursday).
Police closed the road at the junction of Beaumont Avenue to allow the bomb squad to work at the scene.

As work was carried out, residents were advised to stay in their homes.
Just after 12pm, St Albans Police tweeted that the mortar shell had been removed from the property and the road is now open.
