Last week this year pantomime at The Alban Arena, Cinderella, premiered in the city. This years production stars Rachel Stevens (S Club 7), children’s favourite Ben Faulks (CBeebies’ Mr Bloom) and local legend Bob Golding - this time wearing the trousers! The show also features St Albans’ favourites Ian Kirkby and Jemma Carlisle, plus a full supporting West End cast.
Once again, the show will be written by Paul Hendy and produced by Evolution, the same team behind last year’s Box Office smash hit, Aladdin.
The St Albans Review went along to see if they could continue their success, and it turns out they can.
As ever, resident panto star Bob Golding was on top form with one liners and still the biggest pull for the St Albans public.
It certainly was strange not seeing him in a dress for the first time, but it was refreshing and I’m sure next year he will be back once again with a dress on.
If you’re a regular patron of The Alban Arena panto, then you will be familiar with the annual “we will have to sing it again then wont we” part of the productions, which was once again fantastic.
The ugly sisters had multi costume changes - one within 10 seconds – making their characters stand out strongly.
Pegasus the flying horse (Cinderella’s carriage) was a stunning prop which rose from the stage and will undoubtedly impress your little ones just as much as it did me.
Buttons was played by Mr Bloom from CBeeBies, so your children will be very happy to see a familiar face. He was wonderful and held his own with a strong performance.
Congratulations are in order for Paul Hendy, who has yet again produced a stunning pantomime for the people of St Albans.
See the show for yourself until January 6, 2019.
