If you have the holiday blues then fear not, there is another chance for the taste of a trip to Spain with a one-off event.
Sopwell House will bring some Spanish sunshine to St Albans with its latest wine dinner, on September 21 in collaboration with Casa Rojo.
Head chef Matthew Bird has devised a menu with the Spanish winery and vineyard to showcase the importance of wine pairing with different dishes.
The evening will consist of a five-course tasting menu, followed by coffee and petit fours. Dishes include seared scallops, creamed leeks, dill and crispy shallots; roast stone bass, langoustines, tomato and fennel; and salted honey cake, caramel cream, apple and calvados ice cream.
Each course will be matched with a Casa Rojo wine, ranging from the Molto Negre Cava with the amuse bouche; to the El Gardodel Circo Verdejo served with the Stone bass course.
Casa Rojo was founded by Laura Muñoz and Jose Luis Gómez in 2011, but the idea originated in Jumilla, Murcia in 1920. The winemakers explain their mission statement as believing that their wine is “the expression of a family, a land, a climate, and ultimately of an origin.”
Alejandro Van Lieshout, brand ambassador and sommelier for Casa Rojo, will be speaking to guests at the event to share his expertise on the brand, the Murcia region and the wines paired to each course.
