'Be A Buddy Not A Bully'
That is the message from a recently released children's song in efforts to stop bullying in primary and secondary schools.
The song is one of 37 on the Bubblebee: Songs for the Young at Heart album, and has had more than 8,200 views online.
In the UK, 1.5 million young people have been bullied within the past year, and 145,800 of them were bullied every day.
In a Herts 1125 Manifesto titled ‘Priority Online- Cyber bullying’, the results of a recent survey showed that Cyber-bullying was a big issue among students.
A girl from St Albans, aged between 11-13years old, who wished to stay anonymous, said: “People take advantage of the fact that they are anonymous online and are rude or threatening to either get back at someone, or to feel strong or seem big.”
The song lyrics to Be a Buddy, Not a Bully (aimed at children in primary schools) are :
“Oh everybody wants a buddy, who has nice things to say and do
As a bully you’ll hurt someone who’ll not be a friend to you
Be a Buddy, not a bully, a real friend who’s good and true
Let’s all be friends.
Friends are where it’s at
So be a buddy, not a bully
Let every student heed this call
Our school can be much more fun for every student big or small
Let’s all try to work together
Make our school more fun for all
Make our school more fun for all
Let’s do our best.”
