It was as a three year old that Dorrele Morgan first found an affinity and connection to nature. Upon her first sighting of a tree, she was so excited that she twirled and spun around in a circle and started to dance until she was dizzy and fell to the ground in fits of laughter.
"Deep down in my soul those experiences were never forgotten, " says the Jamaican- born artist who has opened an exhibition at the Dugdale Centre which is the culmination of nearly three decades of work.
Visions of Paradise – Nature’s Haven embodies past and most recent works by the artist who is studying for a fine art degree at The University of Hertfordshire and evokes the fragrance and tranquility of her birthplace, which she considers one of the most beautiful places on earth.
It will reveal some of her earlier works with different media and trace her development, from naturalistic semi-abstraction to the many imaginative faces depicted in nature that have become her trademark.
Dorrele enjoys the freedom of combining several techniques and media, including collage, using natural and found materials, painting with acrylics, drawing using charcoal, and printing to create her art and s now looking forward to sharing them with the public.
“I get such a sense of satisfaction when people can relate to my work and enjoy it, " she says. That encourages me to keep going and to keep the spark bright.”
Dugdale Centre, Thomas Hardy House, London Road, Enfield, until December 23, 10am to 5pm.
