Pupils from High Beeches Primary School have secured the top place at the Aldwickbury Maths Challenge, an annual competition that brings together the mathematical elite from more than 30 primary and prep schools in Hertfordshire and North London.
Four Year 4 pupils from High Beeches took part, facing stiff competition from the 140 pupils involved.
Eliza Davies and Anastasia Herries secured first place, and Martha Davies and Ben Shield came 8th, securing first place overall for High Beeches Primary School - the first time they have won the competition.
The children faced six rounds of puzzles and questions, plus a final challenge round.
Hosted by Aldwickbury School, the event itself is run by Mr Douglas Buchanan who travels the country running competitions and maths masterclasses. Mr Tom Brandt, Head of Mathematics at Aldwickbury School, said: "It's always a pleasure to welcome so many enthusiastic mathematicians to the Year 4 challenge.
"It's wonderful to see them engaged in the subject and enjoying the relaxed but competitive maths environment. We look forward to welcoming the schools back next year."
Head Teacher of High Beeches Primary School, Paul Driver, said: "I'm so pleased for the children and immensely proud of them.
"They really demonstrated a 'Growth Mindset’ - they were able to do their very best and face a challenge. To be first and eighth out of 35 local primary and independent schools is a significant achievement."
