Sustainability and fairness will be the subjects for discussion at a hustings event in St Albans this week.
The Better World Hustings has been organised jointly by St Albans Friends of the Earth, St Albans Oxfam, Global Justice Now, Transition St Albans and Trinity URC.
All the prospective parliamentary candidates for the StAlbans constituency will be sitting on the panel answering questions posed by members of the audience on the evening.
Amanda Yorwerth, from St Albans Friends of the Earth said: "We hear a lot on the news about the main parties’ policies on the NHS or the economy – and these issues are important – but on big issues like the future of the planet and the big unfairnesses of our time there is little coverage.
"For example, we hear little about the parties’ proposals to provide the energy we need without threatening the planet, or where parties stand on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership deal which threatens democracy, environmental standards and jobs.
"The Better World Hustings is a great chance to hear directly from the candidates about some important issues around the environment and our responsibilities in the world, and allow the voters of St Albans the opportunity to directly compare the candidates and their policies."
The evening will be chaired by Karl Wilding, Director of Public Policy at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.
The hustings takes place on Thursday at Trinity URC Church, 1 Beaconsfield Road, St Albans.
Questions can be submitted from 7.30pm with a prompt start for the candidates at 8pm.
