Fitness fanatics swam, cycled and jogged to raise money for a Harpenden-based disabled children’s charity.

Fundraisers took part in some, or all three energy-sapping disciplines of the MegaTri event in support of the A-T Society.

Participants swam 4km, cycled 100km across the South Downs and pounded the pavements in the Brighton Marathon at the weekend.

Suzanne Roynon said: “This was a weekend where sport truly brought people together. “Our youngest swimmer was just seven years old, with two runners travelling in from Italy, and four men took part in all three elements and were still smiling at the end.”

The charity, which supports children and families living with the terminal genetic condition Ataxia-Telangiectasia, said it was thrilled by the support it received from participants and businesses.

Ms Roynon added: “As a small charity we have to punch well above our weight to fund family support and research towards a cure.

“Most people haven’t heard of A-T, and yet the medical research we are involved with has potential to help people with cancer, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinsons and a range of genetic conditions.

“Money raised for A-T is so much more than a drop in the ocean, and we hold our fundraisers in very high esteem.”
