Council chiefs will launch an appeal against the dismissal of its High Court challenge against the Government's approval of the mooted rail freight terminal.
St Albans District Council had challenged the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government's decision to grant permission for a strategic rail freight interchange at Park Street.
But the council's case was quashed by Mr Justice Holgate at the Court of Appeal last month.
The council had until yesterday to decide whether it wanted to apply for permission to appeal from the Court of Appeal.
Following consultation with its external legal advisors on grounds for appeal, they have decided to seek such permission.
A petition opposing the sale of Radlett Airfield on the county council’s webiste has more than 3000 signatures.
