A footpath has been transformed into an attractive, smooth feature walk way.
New England Street near Birklands Park in St Albans was a old, word down path with cracked surfaces.
Ringway, who work on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council, have trialled this new type of footpath in the city using asphalt - a material used in road construction that can replicate the look of brick, stone or cobblestone.
The street is located in a conservation area meaning that the materials used had to match the surrounding are or be replaced like-for-like.
Ringway undertook a range of work a week before the new pavement was laid. This included footway patching, reconstruction of the existing footpath and preparing the surface for the new material.
All of this was done to ensure the longevity of the new pavement and to keep it looking as good as possible.
Further work is being carried out to determine if this new style of pavement can be used elsewhere across the county’s pavements.
