A fed-up businesswoman from Bricket Wood pulled the udder one on a cold caller – by pretending she murdered a cow.
Deanne Gold said she had herd enough of unsolicited calls she kept receiving from people trying to pitch services without her permission.
The final straw for the 49-year-old came when she received the calls at work, prompting her turn the tables and “play them at their own game".
When picking up a call about a road traffic accident she was not involved in Mrs Gold pretended she had damaged her car running over a cow.
The mother-of-one frantically told the cold caller she had "killed a cow" and felt she was a "murderer".
The caller can be heard reacting with sympathy, despite Mrs Gold being heard stifling laughter. He even tells her not to get “worked up”.
Mrs Gold continued to escalate her heartbreaking tale saying she considered becoming a "vegetarian" and a farmer offered the cow as "compensation" for the accident.
The video of the prank has become an internet hit being viewed more than 8,000 times on Facebook.
Mrs Gold (pictured above with husband Marc), who lives in Bricket Wood, had her husband record the call last Monday.
She said: “I was so fed up with cold calls, and wanted to get a bit of revenge. I had reached the point where enough is enough.
“Last Monday I had received two calls at work and while I was at home cooking dinner later that night I received the third. I was cooking steak and suddenly had the idea to spin the tale.”
The video has been promoted through Mrs Gold’s iPoint Market Research firm, which she has run with her husband Marc for the past 12 years.
Mrs Gold said she has been approached by a number of people saying they have had similarly frustrating cold call experiences.
She added: “Cold calling wastes so much time.
"The point of it is that other people are getting these calls - something should be done about it.
"It shouldn't be allowed to happen. It's funny what we did but the whole point of the exercise was to show this is harassment."
