Four mayors and an MP attended the twenty first annual Sleep Out at St Albans Cathedral in sub-zero temperatures on Friday night in support of homeless people.
Among the mayors taking part was the Mayor of St Albans who, with the Mayoress, was raising funds for Open Door.
The Mayors of Luton, Berkhamsted and Hertford and the Chairman of Three Rivers Council attended and gave their support to the event which draws people from all over Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
They attend as individuals or groups from schools, youth groups, churches and businesses.
Councillor Geoff Harrison, the Mayor of St Albans, said: "All credit to everyone who slept out or supported the Abbey Sleepout to raise funds for homelessness charities.
"It was great to see so many young people there. Many thanks go to the support team that looked after everyone throughout the night. It was very cold, but that didn’t deter the participants, old or young.
"We are extremely grateful to everyone who has given money for this great cause."
The organisers hope to raise a large figure this year in support of ten homeless charities including local charities Open Door, Centre33 and Emmaus. Last year`s event raised more than £41,000.
