Staff from St Albans hospital have added their backing to a worldwide initiative to raise awareness of the potentially fatal condition sepsis by creating a YouTube hit.
Written by the staff and sung in time to the ABBA classic ‘SOS’, the video encourages staff to remember six simple actions, known as the ‘Sepsis Six’ - which can double a patient’s chance of surviving sepsis.
The YouTube film, which was launched in time for World Sepsis Day, has already been watched more than 1,222 times and includes a wide range of staff from across West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust three sites in St Albans, Watford, and Hemel Hempstead.
Chief nurse Tracey Carter, who appears in the video, said: "I am really proud of our team for coming up with such a unique way of raising awareness of sepsis. "The feedback we’ve had about it has been great and we are pleased that so many people have already watched it. It is a great way to raise awareness sepsis and the Sepsis Six."
