Young people are already trying out the portable youth shelter just installed by St Albans City and District Council at Sherwood Avenue Recreation Ground, Marshalswick.

District, county, and parish councillors visited the ground this week to see the newly-arrived youth shelter in use.

It provides a place where young people can sit, talk and socialise under cover. It will be located in the recreation ground for a trial period until spring 2015 while local people are consulted on their views about the shelter.

If the scheme proves successful, the parish council will consider providing a permanent youth shelter in the area. 

People living nearby can give their views on the shelter by taking part in an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/Sandridge. 

Feedback from the survey will help decide whether to provide a permanent shelter.

Councillor Beric Read, Portfolio Holder for Community Engagement and Localism at St Albans City and District Council, said: "Young people in Marshalswick can now sit and socialise with their friends under cover. 

"The trial location was selected because it is popular with the youngsters consulted by Sandridge Parish Council. Please go and see the youth shelter and provide feedback about its suitability, design and location by completing the online survey."
