A Harpenden charity golf day has raised more than £8,000 for a charity dedicated to supporting people with disabilities.
Harpenden Common Golf Club played host the fourth charity golf day where more than £8,400 was raised for Harpenden Mencap.
Twenty-one teams of golfers took to the fairways and enjoyed a competitive game of, with the evening’s proceedings held in the club house with a meal, raffle and auction.
Anne Hignell, charity trustee, said: “We have worked hard to raise the profile of Harpenden Mencap as a local charity helping local people with learning disabilities and our annual golf day has become an important event in our fundraising programme.
"We use the golf day to raise money for our building fund which, in the past, has helped us achieve our ambitious plan to open 11 self contained flats in Carlton Road. Going forward, we will be raising money for our on-going building fund to help finance our next building project.
"Our golfers are very generous and many have returned each year to support our cause and for this we are very grateful, and this year in particular we welcomed many new golfers.”
Terry Crump, general manager at Harpenden Common Golf Club added: "We're very pleased that Harpenden Mencap has chosen to hold their golf day here for the last four years and we're already looking forward to welcoming their golfers back for next year's event.
"It's a brilliant way for golfers to give to a local charity which is doing great work while taking the opportunity to play our course and experience the friendly atmosphere here."
