Dear Watch Member,
I have just had reported to me a scam call where a resident recieved a call about an accident in her home. There has never been an accident.
This could well be another scam to extort money from residents.
Thankfully, the resident hung up and called me, so I am warning everyone on OWL.
In order to reduce cold-calling, you can register your numbers (mobile and landline) to the Telephone Preference Service (TPS)
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html
This places you on the official register which sales companies have to obtain. You then go on the omissions list and they are not allowed to call you.
Remember, always be suspicious about calls to your home selling you anything. Feel free to hang up, dont worry about offending anyone - you have the right to choose who to take calls from and you must NEVER give out personal information or bank details as a result of a phone to you.
I hope this helps.
