Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a number of burglaries in Hatfield.
Between March 30 and April 13 two properties on Comet Way were targeted by offender(s) who have forced entry and taken items such as games consoles, games and jewellery.
The offences were committed at student accommodation whilst people were away for the Easter break.
Detective Constable Ashleigh Olwage is investigating and said: “I appreciate that the period of time that these offences were committed between spans two weeks but I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between these times and believes they saw anything suspicious to contact me.
“There is a busy pedestrian footpath which cuts from the Galleria past the house and I am confident someone must have seen something which may assist my investigations. If you have any information whatsoever please contact me.”
Hertfordshire Constabulary offers the following advice to students: • During Christmas and summer holidays, when it is likely your house will be empty for a long time, implement additional security measures, e.g. putting a timer on lights. Also see if someone will be around to check on things. Student areas/villages are particular targets for holiday-time burglary.
• Hertfordshire Constabulary offers the following crime prevention advice to students: Get home contents insurance. You may be able to extend your parents' home insurance policy for no extra cost. Alternatively, many insurance companies have competitive deals for students. Remember that you are likely to have many more electronic goods (computers, stereos, TVs etc) than most households.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Olwage on 01707 806845 or via the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number B2/13/1070. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
