Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a man was bitten by a dog in Hatfield at the weekend.
At around 10.50am on Saturday (March 3) a man was walking his two dogs on Birchwood Playing Fields. As he walked to the entrance near Northfield, he encountered another man walking a Staffordshire bull terrier, which went to attack his dogs. Whilst trying to protect his dogs the victim was bitten by the Staffordshire bull terrier.
The man received a serious injury to his hand, which required hospital treatment.
The dog was described as jet black with a white chest.
The man believed to be walking the Staff at the time of the attack is not thought to be its owner. He is described as white, aged between 25 and 28 years old, with short dark brown hair. He was said to be wearing a dark top and jeans and was with two small children, believed to be aged 2 to 4 years old.
It is believed the owner of the Staff is an Asian man, aged between 25 and 30 years old, who is thought to live in the local area.
PC William Rogers-Overy from the Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team is investigating and said: “The victim has a deep bite to his hand as a result of what happened and we’re keen to speak to the person walking the dog that day, as well as the man who we believe is its owner.
“If you believe you saw what happened or can identify these men, please call me via the non-emergency number 101 as soon as possible.”
